Each book focuses on the '100 lessons' to provide follow-up or supporting homework activities, together with teachers' notes advising on: the objectives of the work, the classroom lesson context to which it is appropriate (for teachers using the book as a stand-alone resource), setting the homework and what to do with it when the children bring it back, including marking if necessary. The activities cover the range of homwework types suggested by the NNS and address all the strands of the 'Framework for Teaching Mathematics':Number and the number system, Calculations, Problem-solving,Handling data and Shape, Space and Measures. In terms of parental support, each photocopiable page includes a note to the parent about the purpose of the activity and how to help the child if he/she gets stuck. Franklin
By: ANDREW D. LAMBERT
In 1845 Captain Sir John Franklin led a large, well equipped expedition to complete the conquest of the Canadian Arctic, to find the fabled North West Passage connecting the North Atlantic to the North Pacific. Yet Franklin, his ships and men were fated never to return. Why did this outstanding scientific navigator find his ships trapped in pack ice seventy miles from magnetic north? In this riveting story of the Arctic, Andrew Lambert discovers a new Franklin: a character far more complex, and more truly heroic, than previous histories have allowed.
