So umreisst CANNON die Bedeutung des vegetativen Nervensystems fur die Klinik. Interessant ist die Begriffsentwicklung von der vegetativen Neurose uber die bekannte Vagotonie EPPINGERS, uber die vegetative Stigmatisierung v BERGMANNS, weiter die neurozirkulatorische Asthenie (= effort syndrome) der Angelsachsen, welche die Angstneurose, das Syndrom von DA CosTA, das Soldatenherz u. a. beinhaltet und die Atemneurose, das Hyperventilations syndrom, die Herzneurose usw. abgrenzt, bis zu den heutigen Auffassungen uber die vegetativen Fehlsteuerungen. Doch besteht in den Lehrbuchern der inneren Medizin absolute Uneinigkeit in der Nomenklatur. v. LAUDA setzt die thyreotische Konstitution bzw. vegetative Stigmatisierung gleich vegetative Dystonie. SIEBECK spricht von vegetativer Labilitat, ScHELLONG von vegetati ver Dysregulation. Bei FELLINGER wird noch heute die Herzneurose unter dem Bild der vegetativen Dystonie mit einer Untergruppe der neurozirkulatorischen Dystonie geschildert. Gegen eine einheitliche Nomenklatur bestanden auch deshalb Bedenken, weil vegetatives Gleichgewicht und Erregungszustand des Vegetativum gleichermassen mit dem Ausdruck Tonus zusammengefasst werden. ScHUTZ nimmt bei vegetativen Regulationen eine sich standig andernde feine Einregulierung, nicht einen starren Tonus an, darum wird auch gele gentlich von vegetativer Dysregulation gesprochen. Letztlich ist die vegetative Dystonie WICHMANNS in Deutschland der zur Zeit meist gebrauchte Begriff fur vegetative Dysregulation geworden.
