This includes roundabouts to which signals have been added, as well as junctions designed as signalized roundabouts from the outset. This Local Transport Note does not deal specifically with urban gyratory systems (as opposed to large roundabouts). This "Local Transport Note (1/09) - Signal Controlled Roundabouts" features: Introduction - Purpose and structure of the Local Transport; Overview - History and development of signalized roundabouts in the UK; Reasons for use of signals at roundabouts - General, capacity, safety, changes, pedestrians and cyclists; Design Considerations - Preliminary full or partial signalization, segregated left turns, full or part-time signaling, indirect control, pedestrian/cyclist facilities, signing and road markings; Assessment - Introduction, TRANSYT, LinSig, Microsimulation, PCMOVA; and, Control strategies - General, vehicle actuation, cable less linking, fixed-time UTC, SCOOT, MOVA, linking to ramp metering. |
