Description: |
This book reflects the current practice of clinical immunology centres throughout the UK, Europe and North America. Not all of the tests covered are available in each centre, but most laboratories offering a clinical immunological service will undertake a high proportion of the methods described in this book. |
Synopsis: |
The acceptance of clinical immunology as an important medical speciality has resulted in rapid expansion in the use of immunological investigations concerned. In the process many methods have been modified and there is wide variety for both clinical immunology tests offered and the techniques used in determining the results throughout the world. This book reflects the current practice of clinical immunology centres throughout the UK, Europe, and North America. Not all of the tests covered are available in each centre, but most laboratories offering a clinical immunological service will undertake a high proportion of the methods described in this book. The book has been designed to emphasise the clinical states with which patients present; thus the failure of the immune system and its various components and their malignent transformation involve some overlap of techniques. Aberrations of the immune response have been divided into autoimmunity and allergy, the former being divided, as it is clinically, in organ specific and non-organ specific varieties. |
