Synopsis: |
Designed to accompany the Junior Master Gardener Handbook, the Junior Master Gardener Teacher/Leader Guide contains all the information needed to effectively guide kids through their first JMG level. It also includes forms to register groups and certify participants as Junior Master Gardeners. This JMG Teacher/Leader Guide's eight chapters correspond to and build on the Level 1 handbook. Each chapter contains a smorgasboard of group activities that can be used to fulfill the Junior Master Gardener certification, plus an overview page that allows leaders to see at a glance the wide range of activity choices available. A helpful appendix on working with young people gives leaders tips on helping kids to learn most effectively, and another provides teaching techniques and guides to designing exhibits, field trips, workshops, skits, and role-playing games. Group leaders can read about the various stages of child growth and development to tailor their programs to certain age groups. The appendix is also a plentiful source of worksheets that may be photocopied for groups. For teachers, special sections correlate the activities to reading passages and questions written in a standardized testing format. With the JMG Teacher/Leader Guide, parents and group leaders have the tools they need to use horticulture to cultivate children and communities. |
