Synopsis: |
Based on a conference organized by the Research and Advisory Services Directorate of Scottish Natural Heritage, this text provides an account of current interpretations of "freshwater quality". It describes a range of techniques for its evaluation, and discusses ways in which the principles of quality assessment can be applied. The range of topics covered include: the biological and chemical assessment of water quality; new approaches to Lake classification; inventory and evaluation of river habitat features; and the assessment of nature conservation value. In recognition of the breadth of the subject there are also contributions on landscape assessment, economic and recreation value, and the role of statutory mechanisms and organizational structures in promoting a comprehensive view of "freshwater quality". |
