Synopsis: |
Set in nineteenth century Ireland, this is a semiautobiographical novel about the education of a young Irishman, Stephen Dedalus, whose background has much in common with James Joyce's own. Dedalus, who reappears in Ulysses, comes to realise that he must remove himself from the restrictive social background of Catholic Ireland before he can succeed as a true artist. |
