Description: |
Collection of the late, great comedian Ronnie Barker's best sitcoms. 'Open All Hours' features Barker as stuttering, tightfisted shopkeeper Arkwright, who runs his corner shop with the help of his nephew Granville (David Jason), and lusts after local nurse Gladys (Lynda Baron). Included are all the episodes from series 1-4. In 'Porridge', Barker plays experienced prisoner Norman Stanley Fletcher, locked up in HM Prison Slade with cellmate Lennie Godber (Richard Beckinsale), determined that this will be his last stretch inside, but continually managing to provoke straightlaced warden Mr Mackay (Fulton Mackay). Included are all the episodes from series 1-3, as well as the Christmas specials. In 'Going Straight', Fletcher has been released from prison on parole, and is determined not to go back inside. However, he soon discovers that life outside on the straight and narrow isn't as easy as it looks. Included are all six episodes. In 'Clarence', Barker plays removal man Clarence Sale, whose short-sightedness leads to all sorts of slapstick adventures. Included are all six episodes. 'Seven of One' was the showcase series of seven stand-alone episodes that first introduced the characters Barker was to play so memorably in 'Porridge' and 'Open All Hours'. Finally, in 'The Magnificent Evans', Barker plays grandiose, lusty Welsh photographer and antiques dealer Plantagenet Evans. While he dominates proceedings in the rural Welsh village where he lives, Evans' girlfriend Rachel (Sharon Morgan) is constantly trying to steer his gaze away from the ladies and back to the viewfinder of his camera. Includes all six episodes. |
