When Ray Roberts (Bill Nighy) arrives in small-town Keighley to take part in the Annual British Hairdressing Championship, he seeks out his old colleague Phil (Alan Rickman), a former golden boy of the competition circuit who inexplicably left styling behind to become an ordinary barber. Phil feigns disinterest in the competition, but his son Brian (Josh Hartnett), also a barber, is eager to take part.
