Description: |
Triple bill of thrillers. In 'The Machinist' (2004), Trevor Reznik (Christian Bale) is a factory machine-operator who is suffering from crippling insomnia. His weight has plummeted, he suffers from hallucinations, and he finds himself unable to concentrate at work, leading to a horrific accident involving one of his co-workers. Ostracised from the other men at the factory, Reznik starts finding threatening notes and begins to fear that someone is trying to kill him. Is his paranoia part of his psychological breakdown, or is it possibly justified? 'Wonderland' (2003) is a dark, tangled Los Angeles murder tale based on the real quadruple homicide in Laurel Canyon's Wonderland Avenue in the summer of 1981. Val Kilmer stars as John Holmes, once the world's biggest porn star but now washed up, broke and wasted on drugs. He becomes implicated in the murders of four members of the Wonderland Gang after the police investigation uncovers a dangerous world of violence and gangland rivalry surrounding Holmes, his wife Sharon (Lisa Kudrow) and his innocent teenage girlfriend, Dawn (Kate Bosworth). In 'The Woodsman' (2004), Walter (Kevin Bacon), a convicted paedophile who has served his sentence for his previous crimes and is determined not to relapse, takes a job in a lumber yard, starts a relationship with a local woman and, although he lives in fear of his past crimes being discovered, begins to rebuild his life as best he can. When a suspicious policeman starts harrassing him, and he finds a house across the road from a school, it seems as if his urges are not buried as deep as he had thought. |
