This graphic adaptation of a documented witchcraft case, which took place in France in 1634, sees outspoken priest Father Grandier (Oliver Reed) up against Cardinal Richelieu. A group of hysterical nuns, led by their Mother Superior (Vanessa Redgrave) and encouraged by a charismatic exorcist (Michael Gothard), accuse the priest of seducing them all in demon form, resulting in a sordid mass exorcism of the tainted convent. |
