Description: |
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy star in their last film together, as lords of their own South Seas kingdom. On their way to an inherited island, Stan and Ollie, along with refugee cook Antoine (Max Elloy) and bricklayer Giovanni (Adriano Rimoldi), are shipwrecked, washing ashore on a newly formed atoll. After leading an idyllic life, their fortunes soon change for the worse when uranium is discovered, prompting an international scramble for the rights.Stan (Stan Laurel) and Ollie (Oliver Hardy) are enjoying a Parisian holiday when the latter falls for Georgette (Jean Parker), unaware that she is already married. When she spurns his advances, Ollie joins the Foreign Legion 'to forget', with Stan in tow. The pair do not make the best of soldiers, however, and are shocked to discover that they cannot simply leave the army when they feel like it!Laurel and Hardy inhabit the fantastic Mother Goose-based Toyland as employees of Santa Claus. Thanks to their bumbling but good-hearted efforts, Bo-Peep is saved from a disastrous marriage, her true love is spared exile and the evil Barnaby is banished forever. Oversized wooden soldiers provide the muscle. Remade twice under the title 'Babes in Toyland', in 1961 and 1986. |
