Description: |
Three popular movies starring Jude Law. In 'I Heart Huckabees' (2004), Bernard and Vivian Jaffe (Dustin Hoffman and Lily Tomlin) are a married couple who run an existential detective agency, and whose latest client is Albert Markovski (Jason Schwartzman), an angst-ridden environmental activist. The Jaffes' study of Albert's problems lead them to Brad Stand (Law), a public relations executive who works for a chain of variety stores, Huckabees, and who publicly supports Markovski's environmental stance while privately brokering shady land deals. When Brad hires the Jaffes himself, these interconnected relationships all begin to break down. In 'Road to Perdition' (2002), twelve-year-old Michael Sullivan Jr is curious about what his father (Tom Hanks) does for a living, and one night decides to hide in his car as he goes off to work. It soon transpires that the elder Sullivan is a hitman for the mob, and when young Michael witnesses a killing carried out by the gangster boss' son Connor (Daniel Craig), it starts off a chain of events which will mark Michael's life forever. In 'Enemy at the Gates' (2001), Political Officer Danilov (Joseph Fiennes) sees young army recruit Vassili Zaitsev (Law) in action and realises that he is just what the Russian people need to inspire them in their fight against the German army. Zaitsev is a natural with a rifle, and Danilov arranges for him to be transferred to a sniper unit, where his actions will be publicised, thus making him into a national hero. But Zaitsev soon begins to feel he cannot live up to Danilov's expectations, and to make matters worse, he and Danilov both fall for the same girl (Rachel Weisz). Meanwhile, the Germans find out about Zaitsev and bring in their own top sniper, Konig (Ed Harris), to engage the young Russian in a deadly battle of wits. |
