Description: |
Five Hollywood films in a box set designed to appeal specifically to women. 'The Devil Wears Prada' (2006) is a comedy based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger that tells the story of Andrea (Anne Hathaway), a bright young graduate from the Midwest who wants to work as a magazine writer. After landing a job at fashion magazine, 'Runway', as second assistant to editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) she soon learns that working for Miranda could test the patience of a saint. In 'Thelma and Louise' (1991), waitress Louise (Susan Sarandon) persuades her friend Thelma (Geena Davis) to escape her sexist husband and join her on a driving holiday. After killing a would-be rapist the women find themselves forced to go on the run. When their money is stolen by handsome cowboy Brad Pitt, they begin holding-up convenience stores, feeling strangely liberated by their new-found assertiveness. 'In Her Shoes' (2005) is a drama about two sisters with nothing in common but size 8-and-a-half feet. Maggie (Cameron Diaz) and Rose (Toni Collette) Feller are both best friends and polar opposites when it comes to values, goals and personal style. Maggie is a party girl who barely graduated from high school. Rose is a Princeton educated attorney at a top law firm in Philadelphia. With her nose perpetually to the grindstone, she struggles constantly with her weight and never feels comfortable in the clothes she wears. After a falling out, the two sisters travel a bumpy road toward true appreciation for one another - aided along the way by the discovery of the maternal grandmother (Shirley MacLaine) they thought was dead. In 'Legally Blonde' (2001), Beverly Hills sorority queen Elle (Reese Witherspoon) is shocked when her boyfriend Warner (Matthew Davis) takes her out for a meal and then dumps her, saying that because he is about to attend Law School, he should now start dating a more serious-minded woman. Elle refuses to take this lying down and follows Warner to Harvard, enrolling herself and taking on the bookworms in an all-out contest of Malibu frivolity versus Ivy League ambition. When Elle and Warner then begin working as interns in a prestigious law firm, Elle gets a chance to prove her worth by defending a fitness instructor who has been accused of murder. 'Mr And Mrs Smith' (2005) is an action comedy starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as John and Jane Smith, a suburban couple whose marriage has started to go a bit stale after five or six years. Unbeknownst to each other, they are both assassins who will take on perilous missions for the right price. Jane thinks her husband runs a successful construction company, and John believes his wife works on Wall Street. However, when John and Jane are both assigned to take out the same target they become aware of each other's secret lives, and suddenly both their careers and their marriage go through some dramatic and potentially deadly changes. |
