Description: |
A collection of four films starring actor Jake Gyllenhaal. 'Donnie Darko' (2001), the directorial debut of Richard Kelly, is a comic mixture of 80s sci-fi, horror and teen movie genres. It's October 1988 and small-town USA is about to witness the end of the world. Well, that's according to Frank, a giant talking rabbit that only Donnie Darko (Gyllenhaal), a brilliant but troubled teenager, can see. Frank has been urging Donnie to play dangerous pranks on his friends and dysfunctional family, but when he gets Donnie to leave his bedroom one night and tells him the world will end soon, strange things begin to happen - starting with the engine of an aeroplane plunging to ground and hitting Donnie's now empty bedroom. Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon co-star in 'Moonlight Mile' (2002), a story based on real events in director/screenwriter Brad Silberling's life. Whilst grieving for their murdered daughter, JoJo (Sarandon) and Ben (Hoffman) take in her fiance Joe Nast (Gyllenhaal), who is distraught trying to cancel all the wedding arrangements. As he begins to establish a strong relationship with his late fiancee's parents he also begins a relationship with Birdie (Ellen Pompeo), who has recently lost her fiance. Joe then has to decide how he can reconcile his role as the perfect grieving fiance with someone beginning a new life. 'The Good Girl' (2002) is a black comedy starring Jennifer Aniston. Justine Last's (Aniston) life is going nowhere: her husband (John C. Reilly) spends most of the time getting stoned with his best friend Bubba (Tim Blake Nelson), and she has a dead-end job at the cosmetics desk in a department store. However, all is about to change when fellow worker Tom (Gyllenhaal) - who likes to be called Holden after the main character in 'The Catcher in the Rye' - decides to show Justine just what life can really be like and what she has been missing. 'Proof' (2005) is a compelling drama about an enigmatic young woman haunted by her father's past and the shadow of her own future. On the eve of her 27th birthday, Catherine (Gwyneth Paltrow), a young woman who has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a mathematical genius named Robert (Anthony Hopkins), must deal not only with the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire (Hope Davis), but also with the attentions of Hal (Gyllenhaal), a former student of her father's who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks of Robert's. |
