Description: A collection of five key documentaries by legendary German film director Wim Wenders. In 'Nick's Film: Lightning Over Water' (1980), Wenders travels to New York in the hope of helping complete fellow director Nicholas Ray's final film before he succumbs to terminal cancer. Realising the project cannot be completed in the time remaining, Wenders instead creates a powerful documentary tribute to his great friend and colleague. In 'Room 666' (1982), Wenders pins down six legendary directors (Jean-Luc Godard, Werner Herzog, Steven Spielberg, Yimaz Guney, Michelangelo Antonioni, and R.W. Fassbinder) in room 666 of the Hotel Martinez at the Cannes Film Festival of 1982, and asks them for their views on the future of cinema. In 'Tokyo-Ga' (1985), the Japanese capital comes under the spotlight, as Wenders attempts to understand Japan's national identity by tracing the sociological development of the city, both past and present. In 'Notebook on Cities and Clothes' (1989), Wenders focuses on the world of fashion, and in particular the work of Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto as he prepares to present his new collection on the catwalks of Paris. Finally, in 'A Trick of the Light' (1996), Wenders employs all the skills at his command to tell the story of the early days of German cinema, portraying the life stories of the Skladanowsky Brothers, inventors of an early form of the projector.
