Description: |
Dramatisation of the story of France's most recognisable tourist attraction, pieced together from accounts of the people involved in the construction effort. The Eiffel Tower was erected to last no longer than 20 years after the World's Fair of 1889. But how was it actually built, who built it and how did it become the most popular and instantly recognisable building in the world? This story tells all. It's 1884 and the workshops of the internationally renowned engineer Gustave Eiffel are bristling with anticipation. There is already talk of the 1889 World Fair and the grand celebrations to mark the centenary of the French Revolution. Eiffel plans to stand out once again as the representative of France. Then an idea comes from one of his partners. They should turn their most recent bridge design skywards and built a vast tower that will take Europe, the US and the world by storm. Blending archival footage, CGI, factual accounts and dramatically reconstructed scenes, the true story of the 1000 feet of steel that defines a nation in the world's eyes. |
