Synopsis: |
The UK has for many years had a major interest in sea fisheries reflecting its geographical position in the North East Atlantic. The UK fishing industry has some 11,100 fishing vessels, with a further 600 registered in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man. In 1993, the UK fleet caught 858,000 tonnes of sea fish with a total value of 526 million which were landed both into the UK and abroad. The statistical tables presented in this report are intended to provide a broad picture of the UK fishing industry and its operations. Data for 1993 are provided along with some earlier data, including texts and graphs to help explain and illustrate the figures within the tables. |
