Description: |
Includes 74 contemporary readings on philosophy of religion. This title covers the standard subjects, but also tackles several topics like religion and science, religious pluralism, and religious ethics. It focuses on the Western tradition and also includes continental, feminist, and Asian writings. |
Synopsis: |
The third edition of this perennially popular anthology in the philosophy of religion examines both the basic classical and a host of contemporary issues. Organized into fourteen thematic sections, its seventy-four selections cover standard subjects--religious experience, theistic arguments, the problem of evil, and miracles--as well as more recently discussed topics like reformed epistemology, process theism, and the kalam theological argument. Readings on the religion-science controversy, religious ethics, and the diversity of world religions are also included. The third edition adds two new sections--on the ontological status of religion and open theism--along with helpful study questions and a glossary. While it deals primarily with the Western and analytic traditions in philosophy, this edition also includes readings representing continental, feminist, and Asian perspectives. New selections include essays by Marilyn Adams, Robert Adams, David Basinger, Emile Durkheim, Stephen Evans, J. R. Lucas, Bruce Reichenbach, and Jean-Paul Sartre. |
