Synopsis: |
"Rebuilding the House: Select Committee (HC 272)" follows on from the Reform Committee's first report: "Rebuilding the House (HC 1117)". The Liaison Committee agrees with their comment in that report that 'the House devotes considerable resources to select committees and then largely neglects their output in drawing up the House agenda'. Select committees need to have their output linked through debate and dialogue into the overall system for holding government to account. The Liaison Committee calls for a positive response to the full range of the Reform Committee's proposals and this report sets out to inform the House as it considers the recommendations. |
