Description: |
"The primary purpose of the consensus committee was to make recommendations designed to improve the utility of the cardiovascular listings for evaluating disability claims by improving the sensitivity of the listing criteria to identify individuals who meet SSA's definition of disability, that is, those who are no longer able to engage in substantial work activities."--P. ix-x. |
Synopsis: |
The Social Security Administration (SSA) uses a screening tool called the Listing of Impairments to identify claimants who are so severely impaired that they cannot work at all and thus immediately qualify for benefits. In this report, the IOM makes several recommendations for improving SSA's capacity to determine disability benefits more quickly and efficiently using the Listings. |
