Synopsis: |
The Spirit of Hegel consists of a collection of essays covering almost every facet of Hegel's philosophy. Errol E. Harris emphasizes Hegel's contemporary relevance, elucidating difficult and controversial questions, and revealing Hegel's insight into key philosophical problems. Harris presents Hegel's philosophy as consistent, credible, and prophetic in its anticipation of modern scientific developments. Hegel is shown to succeed in reconciling idealism with realism, rationalism with empiricism, and relevation with reason. Most of these essays have been previously published in various journals or as chapters contributed to anthologies. But all of them have been revised by the author and in part rewritten, in order to improve and update them. Some are new, having been especially written for this volume, and others were written some time ago but have never before been published. |
