US Marine Robert Garwood was captured in Vietnam in 1965. He returned to the United States in 1979, six years after the peace agreements were signed; he was court-martialled and found guilty of collaborating with the enemy. In this book the reader learns Garwood's true story: a 14-year struggle to survive and prevail, not only over a cruel and manuplative enemy, but over his own country's efforts to kill him. Part of Colonel Tom McKenney's job in Vietnam was to eliminate "traitors" and Garwood became and obsession to him. Only 25 years later did he come to the conclusion that Garwood was innocent and indeed a hero.
