Delving into letters, papers and diaries in the "Confusion Room", Derek Tangye finds snatches of his past and weaves them into the story of his life today at Minack, his remote Cornish cottage. He lives there alone since his wife Jeannie died, with his donkeys Merlin and Susie. He is never lonely because readers from all over the world come to see him, to feel the tranquility of Minack expressed in his books. That tranquility, however, has been interrupted. Somebody is destroying the innocence of Minack, using the cliff meadows where Derek and Jeannie once grew daffodils, to grow cannibis. Enraged, Derek notifies the police and the CID to come to investigate. This autobiography tells two stories. One unravels the contents of "The Confusion Room". The other is a story of suspense: the hunt for the culprit, vandalizing the meadows which Derek and Jeannie nurtured and loved. |
