Synopsis: |
To accompany an exhibition, opening October 1990 in New York City, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has put together a volume that celebrates the significant achievements of Mexico's cultural heritage. More than 400 sculptures, paintings and objects illustrates this survey on the arts of Mexico. With the collaboration of the Mexican government, five specially commissioned teams of photographers were dispatched to photograph the art as well as the archaeological sites. In addition, the book includes authoritative texts covering each artistic era and an introductory essay. Its scope encompasses the four major periods of Mexican Art: Pre-Columbian, Colonian, 19th-century art produced after the Wars of Independence and the 20th century. |
