This can result in the sudden loss of speech, or the ability to move a body part and, if severe enough, death.Stroke is the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer, and the commonest cause of adult disability. Every year about 100,000 people in the UK suffer first strokes, and around 350,000 people are affected by severe disability at any one time.
