Denis Lawton was Director of the Institute of Education, University of London from 1983 to 1989, and has held many other positions of distinction within education during his long career. His books have profoundly influenced two generations of teachers and education academics. This collection of essays honours Denis Lawton's contribution to education theory and practice, reflecting the many scholarly dimensions of his work. Included are studies in the politics of education, education policy, history of education, social theory and education, and the interrelated 'educational commonplaces' of school, curriculum, pedagogy and assessment.
