Synopsis: |
Christina Georgina Rossetti was born in London in 1830.,Her father was a poet ,Gabrielle Rossetti and her mother was related to a friend of Lord Byron. Her first poem was published in 1850 ,with her most famous collection Goblin Market and other poems published in 1862 to critical and popular acclaim. Tennyson and Hopkins were great admirers and after the death of Elizabeth Barrett Browning ,she was consider the greatest English female poet. At around this time she was the model for number of paintings and drawings undertaken by her brother Dante a leading light in the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood. Christina later in her life concentrated on more devotional verses and Children's Poetry. She had suffered illnesses throughout her life and died of cancer in 1894. Her most famous works were Remember, Goblin Market and the Christmas carol In the Bleak Midwinter. |
