The author takes the reader on a journey from his childhood in Rome through fascism and his flight from Nazism to his arrival in the United States. Modigliani's passion for economics ultimately brought him a professorship at MIT, but not before he demonstrated his opposition to the Vietnam War and enjoyed many fascinating encounters with some of hte key political figures of the twentieth century, from Kennedy to Reagan.
