Synopsis: |
In 1860, the United States was a country divided. The issue of slavery was perhaps the greatest division - the nation would go to war over it the next year. But communication between the eastern states and the newly settled territories of the West was also a problem. It was apparent that the two sides of the country had to be linked somehow. The establishment of the Pony Express did just that. For about a year and a half, Pony Express riders and their horses braved the dangerous and unknown to deliver mail in a timely manner. Through grueling weather conditions, past dangerous Indian ambushes and horse thieves, the riders galloped across the plains and deserts of the Wild West. This title presents the story of the Pony Express in one of American ingenuity and man's struggle to overcome his obstacles. |
