Synopsis: |
It is 2022. As Helen Gordon finishes her survival training and joins her new community on a beautiful island it is attacked. She meets David Miller but he does not know who she is. The community has been created by a group of scientists who are tired of the UK and decide that with modern technology they could create new closed and sustainable communities and defend themselves ruthlessly. It is revolution. Mainland UK is in a mess. In 1996 European Union countries had insisted that the UK must have a proportional electoral system. The Conservatives win the 1997 General Election but the political structure collapses and chaos results. New Labour MP and hero Walter Bell V.C. takes control. It is a subtle form of dictatorship. There is continual conflict between the UK Government and the communities. Conservative leader Clare Calderwood visits the community. In spite of disagreements she and David become lovers. Helen becomes particularly skilful at controlling computers directly from the human brain . She and David find themselves in a desperate mental struggle to control the master computer which will decide the future of the communities. |
