Synopsis: |
Mary Wollstonecraft is generally recognized as one of the most influential figures in the early feminist movement. This volume contains two of her political writings, "A Vindication of the Rights of Men" (1790) and "A Vindication of the Rights of Woman" (1792). Her reputation as a political writer was established by the publication of "A Vindication of the Rights of Men" (1790), which was a response to Edmund Burke's conservative "Reflections on the Revolution in France". The second book in this collection has interested feminists and historians of women's literature as the first sustained argument for female emancipation based on a cogent ethical system. |
