Synopsis: |
Isaac Newton's "Mathematical Principles" (1687) is one of the most important science classics. With it, Newton despatched received physics and established the foundation for the classical mechanics which we refer to as Newtonian physics. This volume presents a new German translation of the "Principia". The widely divergent texts of the first, second and third editions are reproduced, together with Newton's hand-written addenda and his commentary on a number of important passages. Consideration is also given to translation of contemporary reviews of the "Principia", including those by such important writers as John Locke and Christian Wolff. This edition enables the reader to follow the genesis of the "Principia" and provides a guide to the study of this famous work. |
