Description: |
The second of four unique monographs documenting four contemporary artist's selections from Moscow's V-A-C collection and their subsequent display at Whitechapel Gallery during 2014/2015. |
Synopsis: |
The series is continued by British artist Fiona Banner (b.1966), whose work explores the problems and possibilities of written language, particularly through transcriptions of film, and often supporting these texts with sculpture and installation. Including pieces by Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol and Bridget Riley, Banner has devised an installation which reveals but also conceals the image, exploring the blurred lines between language, photography and painting. Rejecting conventional gallery lighting, instead she uses coloured light which flows gently through Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black in a direct reference to the CMYK system commonly used for printing images. As well as full-colour installation photography, the publication includes a conversation between the artist and Omar Kholeif, and an essay by experimental novelist Stewart Home exploring the future of photography through a tarot reading. |
