This is a fictional story of Merseyside's struggle against the Luftwaffe based on a very real situation. John Frain's novel is set against the Battle and is primarily written to honour the sacrifice of the merchant seamen who died to keep Britain's lifelines open. It tells the story of a boy from Liverpool who finds himself in the Battle, literally by accident. His eyes are opened to the horror, sacrifice and courage of what went on in the Western Ocean at that time. As the story unfolds we learn of the steadfastness of the civil population during Merseyside's May Blitz of 1941 and of the devotion of the families of 'those in peril'. It is a tale told with integrity, sensitivity and skill. |
