Award-winning drama about loss and friendship. Alan Rickman plays Alex Hughes, an introspective English man struggling to come to terms with the death of a hitchhiker killed in his car in a horrific crash. Following the accident, Alex finds himself shell-shocked and snowbound in a sleepy Canadian town. Despite his sadness and reserve, he finds himself gradually drawn into relationships with two intriguing women he meets there: the highly-functioning autistic Linda (Sigourney Weaver), whose life has also been touched by the tragedy; and her sexy, independent neighbour Maggie (Carrie-Anne Moss). The film was selected to open the 2006 Berlin Film Festival, with the director, Marc Evans, receiving a nomination for the Golden Bear. |
