Description: |
These four classic horror films can be watched either in original black and white or digitally remastered in colour. Ed Wood's cult horror 'Bride of the Monster' (1955) was financed by cattle rancher, Donald McCoy, on two conditions: that his son Tony would star, and that Wood would make a powerful anti-nuke statement. Bela Lugosi stars as Dr Vornoff, a mad scientist on a quest to create a new race of atomic people to conquer the world. To create these super-beings he performs a delicate operation - he straps a lampshade to their head and administers a huge electric current. However, his experiments succeed only in killing his subjects. He proposes to use a beautiful newspaper reporter, Janet Lawton (Loretta King), but is himself experimented upon by his giant mute assistant, Lobo (Tor Johnson). Vornoff becomes immensely strong, able to resist police bullets, and is killed only after falling prey to a giant rubber octopus. Lugosi also stars in 'The Devil Bat' (1941) as Dr Carruthers, a mad scientist who - in order to revenge himself upon his former employers Martin Heath (Edward Mortimer) and Henry Morton (Guy Usher), who have become rich on a formula he devised - develops an aftershave lotion that causes gigantic killer bats to attack anyone who wears it. 'House On Haunted Hill' (1958) is a classic Hollywood horror starring master of the macabre Vincent Price. Price plays millionaire Frederick Loren, who challenges five people to spend the night in a haunted mansion for the prize of $10,000. Taking up the bet, the volunteers soon find themselves trapped with a host of spirits, ghouls, and deranged killers. Price also stars in 'The Last Man On Earth', the 1964 film adaptation of Richard Matheson's acclaimed horror novel 'I Am Legend', which has since also been filmed as 'The Omega Man' (1971) with Charlton Heston, and 'I Am Legend' (2007) with Will Smith. As a result of the immunity he developed while working in Central America, Dr Robert Morgan (Price) is the only survivor of a catastrophic plague that has swept the world. It seems he is all alone in the world but, when night falls, plague victims rise from their graves to form an undead army, thirsty for blood... |
