Description: |
Collection of horror films. In 'An American Werewolf in London' (1981), American students David Kessler (David Naughton) and Jack Goodman (Griffin Dunne) are spending their holidays backpacking around England. Seeking shelter from a storm at unwelcoming Yorkshire inn 'The Slaughtered Lamb', the pair are soon spooked by the unwelcoming locals, who nonetheless warn them not to stray from the road. Sure enough, the duo become lost on the moors and are attacked by a savage animal. Jack is killed, but when David wakes in a London hospital weeks later he is told that his attacker was in fact a rampaging madman. Already shocked and confused, David is horrified to receive a visit from the rotting corpse of an undead Jack, who informs him that the creature which attacked them was in fact a werewolf. Unless David kills himself he will fall prey to the monster's curse at the next full moon, and transform into a savage killer... In 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' (1992), Francis Ford Coppola's big budget version of Bram Stoker's classic vampire novel, Victorian London provides the stalking ground for the lovelorn Transylvanian Prince Vlad (Gary Oldman), feeding off human blood as he seeks out the beautiful Mina (Winona Ryder), a reincarnation of his lost love Elisabeta. Mina is also courted by gentleman estate agent Jonathan Harker (Keanu Reeves), whose chum Doctor Van Helsing (Anthony Hopkins) wants to put an end to this vampire business once and for all. In 'Mary Shelley's Frankenstein' (1994), Kenneth Branagh stars in and directs this adaptation of the classic horror yarn. Obsessed with creating life, Victor Frankenstein (Branagh) harnesses the power of electricity in order to reanimate the body of a once-dead criminal (Robert De Niro). When he then witnesses the abhorrence of this reborn creature, Frankenstein is appalled and quickly abandons it. However, the creature is aware of its origins and comes looking for revenge. In 'The Thing' (1982), John Carpenter's ice-bound sci-fi horror updating of the 1951 Howard Hawks classic 'The Thing From Another World', a research team in the Antarctic discovers a spaceship buried beneath the ice, and becomes terrorised by the shape-changing monster that is housed within. Finally, in 'The Relic' (1997), biologist Margo Green (Penelope Ann Miller) teams up with police Lieutenant D'Agosta (Tom Sizemore) to investigate a series of grisly murders at her place of work - the Natural History museum. Can there be a link with the recently-arrived crates belonging to a missing anthropologist from Brazil? All that is found in the crates are some leaves covered with a strange fungus, which when analysed proves capable of mutating whoever eats it. When a guard is killed and a headless body interrupts the museum's exhibition gala, Margo and D'Agosta discover that there is an ancient killer monster on the loose. |
