Synopsis: |
"In Work, Better Off: Next Steps to Full Employment (Cm. 7130)" sets out to deliver a step change in the employment and skills support offered by the Government to those who are most disadvantaged in the labour market. It builds on the measures in the 'Welfare Reform Act 2007: Elizabeth II - Chapter 5' (ISBN 0105405078) and is published alongside another document, 'World Class Skills: Implementing the Leitch Review of Skills in England (Cm. 7181)' (ISBN 0101718128), both of which are available below. This Green Paper sets out proposals for a newly integrated employment and skills system with a more personalised, flexible, and responsive New Deal offering new support to job seekers in return for new responsibilities and encouraging individuals to help themselves. It also proposes a strengthening of the rights and responsibility agenda, particularly for lone parents. The proposals are underpinned by a more extensive partnership at the heart of welfare delivery which makes greater use of expertise across the public, private and voluntary sectors at both national and local level. Also key to these proposals is a renewed partnership with employers, including a new Jobs Pledge, which aims to find job opportunities for over 250,000 people currently on benefit who are ready and prepared to work. The consultation period begins on 18 July 2007 and runs until 31 October 2007. |
