Synopsis: |
This guide, "Schools for the Future: Design of Sustainable Schools - Case Studies", is designed to be accessible to the whole school community. It is particularly aimed at expert professionals such as designers and local authority clients. It addresses refurbishment of existing schools as many sustainability techniques used in the design of new schools can be applied to existing schools and vice versa. This volume of case studies concentrates primarily on schools which have tackled environmental aspects of sustainability. The schools include various features which allow schools to be constructed and operated in ways that do not damage the environment. The publication is structured in three parts: emerging themes highlights those messages that were consistently identified at a number of the schools investigated; detailed case studies of twelve schools; and a brief description of the main tools that support sustainable design, many of which have been applied to the case study schools. |
