Synopsis: |
This report describes and evaluates the provision of religious education and collective worship in a sample of primary, secondary and SEN schools inspected by Her Majesty's Inspectors in England during the academic year 1992-93. The provision of religious education and collective worship is specified in law but is not subject to national statutory guidance of the kind provided for other National Curriculum subjects. This report records success, but it also shows there is a serious lack of attention of religious education in many schools, and identifies a shortage, appropriate specialist expertise. The evidence and the issues identified are a contribution to an important ongoing debate. |
