This consolidated "Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen CD-ROM" edition contains the "2007 Edition of the Code" (ISBN 9780115528231) plus "Amendment 8" (ISBN 9780115529481) and "Amendment 9" (ISBN 9780115530784). This Code is essential for all merchant seamen, to ensure safety on board ships. It is intended primarily for merchant seamen on UK registered vessels and applicable to all ship personnel. It is to be carried on all UK ships (other than fishing vessels and pleasure craft), and a copy must be made available to any seaman in the ship who requests it, in accordance with the "Merchant Shipping Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen Regulations 1998" (ISBN 9780110793528).This CD-ROM contains: advice on safe mooring arrangements for small domestic passenger craft and ship launches; recommendations regarding hazardous substances made by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB); information about the Merchant Shipping (Control of Noise at Work) Regulations 2007 and Merchant Shipping (Control of Vibration at Work) Regulations 2007; information on safety responsibilities and shipboard management, including risk assessment and personal protective equipment; details about personal health and safety, including guidance on work activities; details about specialist ships including dry cargo ships and tankers; guidance for safe movement; pictorial representations of arrangements for working aloft; working on portable ladders and arrangements for entrances into enclosed spaces; and, advice on the general safety principals to be followed when working on deck whilst at sea. This CD-ROM is a subsidiary product of the "Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen" and a print version of the Code is still required by law. |
