Synopsis: |
In 2001 the Government decided to pursue its policy of minimising the adverse environmental impacts of pesticides through a partnership approach - the Voluntary Initiative (VI) - rather than a tax on pesticide. The VI focuses on training, research and the communication of best practice and since it began its progress has been closely monitored. This report concludes that the VI should continue after 2006 but it is vital for the Government to make significant progress with its strategic approach to the sustainable use of pesticides and prioritise the issue. |
