Synopsis: |
This series of six workbooks are designed for children aged between six and twelve. The activities in the books have been designed to develop a range of factual, inferential and literal reading comprehension skills. They may be used on their own, or to reinforce vocabulary and comprehension work covered in a language programme. The activities could also be used as starting points for class discussions, with pupils talking about what has been read and written, to further develop comprehension skills and to encourage reading and writing. The workbooks can be used to reinforce comprehension and vocabulary activities undertaken in any language programme. A wide range of genre has been used throughout the books, which allows the teachers to select those activities that fit into language, thematic or genre-based programmes. Each checkpoint can be developed into a learning episode that invites teacher expansion and encourages pupils to practise skills and processes. Teachers can use classroom management strategies that involve pupils talking about what has been read and written, developing comprehension skills and encouraging further reading and writing. |
