Description: Contains documents relating to the establishment of statehood by the Republics of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Macedonia, and the ensuing conflicts.
Synopsis: This volume contains documents relating to the establishment of statehood by the Republics of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Macedonia, and the ensuing conflicts. It covers the referenda on interdependence, declarations on independence, constitutional documents and materials relating to state succession. The book also contains documents concerning the establishment of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and its claim to succession to the rights and obligations of the former Socialist Federal Republic. Documentation is also included on Kosova and its attempts to achieve independence. A large part of the book is devoted to the conflicts which erupted in the individual republics, and the response to these crises from the UN and other organisations, including the EC, NATO, CSCE and Western European Union. Efforts to alleviate the humanitarian consequences of the conflicts are also addressed. This work includes a substantial introduction and is fully indexed.
