The book then addresses the subject of the political and economic reforms that have taken place in Eastern Europe since 1989 and considers how these have affected theose economic relationships. It examines in particular the type of economic aid that the European Community has extended to East European economies as they make the difficult transition from state-run economies to more market-oriented systems, the new economic alliances tha are coming into being, joint ventures between West European companies and East European organizations, and the effect of German unification on the general economic balance of power and influence within Europe. The book concludes with a prognosis for the future. |
