Synopsis: |
This work examines the nature of corporate involvement in schooling. It analyzes the extent and effects of corporate involvement in schooling and identifies processes by which businesses and educational transactions occur. In this post-modern era, schooling has become multi-faceted, partly due to neoliberal economic forces that threaten to alter existing educational structures. Such influences have resulted in corporate involvement in schooling, whereby school districts are expected to provide an educational system, responsive to the needs of private corporations, which may conflict with student needs. Research literature either supports corporate involvement within schools or discredits educators and their corporate partners for allowing schools to replicate corporate values, to gain access to impressionable students and to recruit future employees. Current research is vital to educators in understanding whose interests educational policies about corporate involvement actually serve. Intents, strategies, processes and their effects are explored, and perceptions and attitudes among corporate representatives and educators are described. |
