Description: |
This work makes a case to support the ancient view that the Roman philosopher, Seneca, became a Christian late in his life. It presents an extended number of quotations taken from Seneca's writings, and places them in alignment with familiar verses found in the gospel accounts. |
Synopsis: |
This scholarly work will attempt to locate the place in the writings of Seneca where the philosopher appeared to turn away from the polytheism of the Roman Empire and from the deities that were enshrined in the Pantheon. Stated more exactly, the intention is to fix the point at which he seemed to draw apart from the state philosophy of Stoicism. Of all the works in the Senecan canon, his essay, de Providentia, would suggest inself as the likeliest place in which departure had been made. |
