Although compiled to meet the needs of young people wishing to play English folk music, this book of over 60 simple tunes can be used equally successfully with adults. It is suitable for use at group events, with bands or in schools or workshops. The tunes have been selected and arranged so that musicians of all levels of development can take part without too much preparation. Those who are already competent at playing instruments such as recorders, violins and harmonicas should be able to play the melodies quite easily. Beginners and those who wish to play percussion instruments can take advantage of the suggestions for second parts or rhythmic accompaniments. As confidence increases, performers are encouraged to add their own improvisations. The melodies are mostly traditional and many will be easily recognised. The majority of them can be used equally successfully for adult dances as for those organised for children. |
