Synopsis: |
This volume is a collection of papers presented at the 1995 TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, February 12-16, 1995. The primary focus of these proceedings is the criticality of synthesis/processing in producing materials with novel constitutional and microstructural features, and enhanced mechanical property combinations. Attention is given to solid, liquid and vapour phase processing routes. The overview introductory paper demonstrates that the greater the departure from equilibrium possible using a particular process, the greater the flexibility in obtaining novel features. The remaining 31 papers have been divided into three sections: titanium; aluminium; and other metals. These papers contain useful information on processing via rapid solidification, mechanical alloying, vapour deposition and thermomechanical processing and characterization of both monolithic and composite types of materials. |
